Psychotherapy in Santa Monica

Integrative Eastern-Western Medicine

Most people assume that health is simply being free from illness or injuries within the body; however, overall health should encompass the body's entire system, including physical health and mental well-being. At Balanced Life Institute, we believe that the body functions as a system, constantly being fed from inside and outside sources. When one portion of the system is off, it may have adverse effects on the rest of the body. Just as it is important to keep your heart strong, your digestive system functioning properly, and your muscles healthy, your mental health and emotional well-being are essential to the proper functioning of your body system. Emotional complications such as relationships with family members and spouses can cause serious damage to your mental health. At Balanced Life Institute, we offer psychotherapy courses with licensed therapists to address these concerns and work toward a healthy life.

Psychotherapy is used to address issues between couples, families, and other personal relationships. The therapy process involves the patients or group and the therapist themselves in an open, accepting and progressive environment. Our licensed and trained therapists will work with you to address concerns related to your family, relationships and marriage. Oftentimes, therapists will work to understand the underlying cause of a complication, the triggers to the unhappiness and plan out a resolution to help you achieve peace. When your relationships are free from negativity, your emotions can be positive. When emotions are positive, your body can begin working as a whole again. Your mental health and emotions are all connected and play an integral role in your overall well-being. It is important to work with Balanced Life Institute to address concerns and integrate psychotherapy into your wellness plan.

STRESS AND PAIN MANAGEMENT GROUP

The ability to tolerate and accept stress is an essential mental health goal for at least two reasons:

First, pain and distress are a part of life. They cannot be entirely avoided or removed. The inability to accept this immutable fact itself leads to increased pain and suffering.

Second, Distress Tolerance, at least over the short run, is part and parcel of any attempt to change oneself. Otherwise, impulsive actions will interfere with efforts to establish desired changes that include:

  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • Increased relaxation and energy
  • Enhanced creativity and attention
  • Restored balance of mind & body
  • Improved mental and physical performance

MINDFULNESS TRAINING AND MEDITATION GROUP

The concept of mindfulness comes from Eastern (Zen) meditation and spiritual practices, as well as some Western ideologies.

Mindfulness means being in the present, being aware of what is happening and what you are doing, observing what is going on, participating fully in what is going on around you.

It is a skill that is practiced and learned throughout Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), little bit by little bit. By learning to live in the present, you can have a life that is more in tune with your feelings and your activities.

IMPROVED MENTAL SHARPNESS AND PERFORMANCE

FOR ENHANCED LEARNING

Learn to improve your performance and learning capabilities through mindfulness training.

As students, no matter what we’re studying, it’s guaranteed that at some points during our course, whether undergraduate or postgraduate, we will have to face situations which involves periods of stress and/or anxiety. Like when writing papers, performing on stage, or run up to examinations, and we will need high levels of cognitive control, emotional regulation and self-awareness for successful performance on such situations.

The problem is stress and anxiety actually reduces our aptitude for learning and successful management and completions of these tasks

and challenges and it may also adversely affect our health and well-being as well.

Mindfulness training can provide us with effective tools to help us increase our stress tolerance and, in turn, enhance our learning capacity by remaining calm, sustain our attention and to focus more consistently and appropriately in the face of these demands and improve our psychological and physical well-being as well.

Mindfulness training can offer all students tools that help:

1. Improve overall mental and physical performances.

2. Enhance creativity and focus.

3. Minimize the negative effects of stress.

4. Increase relaxation and energy.

5. Improve coping with low mood/depression and decrease anxiety.

6. Building self-awareness, emotional resilience and self-compassion.

ANGER & CONFLICT RESOLUTION WORKSHOP

How do we define anger?

How is it when we realize that we have numerous choices in dealing with our angry feelings?

How can we let go of the side effects of anger?

Anger is a natural emotion like any other. It is an instinctual reaction to perception of danger and need for survival. When we have trouble limiting our anger reactions to what is appropriate and constructive, the cost of such instances can greatly affect our lives, relationships, and health.

This workshop provide a reflective space where we will explore the underlying dissatisfaction, incomplete, or unfulfilled self that may lead to anger and we will learn to:

Determine what anger is and how it affects our lives.

• Identifying the situations and/or thoughts that are most likely to trigger your anger.
